Prime Day’s Real Value Starts When the Deals Stop

Most sellers spend Prime Day glued to the sales counter.

I know, because I was one of them. When I was running my own Amazon brand, I'd refresh Seller Central every few minutes as if staring at it would make the number climb faster. It never did.

After 14 years selling on Amazon, here's what I've learnt: the event itself isn't the valuable bit. What it tells you about Q4 is, and you don't have long to act on it.

Prime Big Deal Days is the only proper stress test you'll get before Black Friday. Your listings, pricing, stock and ads have just run under peak traffic. Most sellers will glance at the revenue, feel pleased or flat, and move on. That's a wasted opportunity.

This week, while the data is still fresh, ask yourself four questions:
  1. Which deals brought in new to brand customers, and which just handed a discount to people who'd have bought anyway?
  2. Where did conversion hold up under the extra traffic, and where did it quietly drop off?
  3. Where does your stock sit now, and does it still cover Black Friday on 27 November?
  4. Which keywords converted at peak CPCs, and which ones just burned budget?

If you didn't get round to prepping beforehand, it's not too late to get value from it. Our Prime Big Deal Days Readiness Checklist works just as well as a post event review. Same checks, different timing.

When I was a brand owner, the hour we spent picking apart a big event was often worth more than the event itself. That's where our Black Friday plan actually got written.

Think of Prime Day as a dress rehearsal for Q4 with slightly lower stakes. The brands that treat it that way go into November with evidence. Everyone else goes in with hope.

Do the review this week. You'll thank yourself around 25 November.
