The 3 Mistakes I Made on Amazon (And How Benchmarking Could Have Saved Me)

When I first tried selling on Amazon, I thought I had it figured out. Spoiler: I didn’t.

I made the same three mistakes that I see so many small brands still making today:

1. I guessed at pricing

I had no idea what competitors were charging. Sometimes I underpriced myself, sometimes I priced too high. Both hurt.

What I wish I’d done? Benchmarked against similar products so I could position myself smartly instead of blindly.

2. I ignored the content gaps

My listings didn’t use the right keywords, the images weren’t strong, and my descriptions weren’t clear. I just assumed people would “get it.” They didn’t.

Benchmarking competitor listings would have shown me exactly what I was missing.

3. I wasted money on ads

I poured budget into keywords that looked good on paper but didn’t convert. Without benchmarks, I couldn’t see what actually worked in my category.

The truth is, I could have saved months (and a lot of money) if I’d had access to proper benchmarking tools.

That’s why I’m so excited about our Alpha programme. We’re giving 20 UK brands four months of Amazon Analytics and Find — plus real support — so you don’t make the same mistakes I did.
